Successful Homesteading, Issue # 50, Finding Joy in Homesteading
August 22, 2016
Hi,

Issue #50, August 22, 2016

Greetings! Long Time No See ;-)

Greetings! And long time, no see (or hear, more precisely).

I started this website in the year 2008, when I was only homeschooling one child and could carve out pockets of time, where I could get away from said one child (or take him with me to the library) and work on this website. But then my two younger children came of homeschooling age, and free time evaporated into thin air. Teaching reading, writing and arithmetic took precedent over my passion for homesteading and living the self-sufficient life. There was a time there when we even had to give up the chickens. ;-)

I discovered that teaching three children was a lot more work than just teaching one. There were also other interests that took my time away from my writing and this website.

Fast forward to the summer of 2016. Led by my daughter, the kids organized a mass protest to be put into school. Homeschooling while living in the country has the downside of few kids to play with, and my children are people-persons; they were kid-starved. So, I finally acquiesced and put them in a private school. So far, they’re delighted with their new environment, and I am finding myself with a lot more time to work on this website.

My goal in the next few months is to provide you with a better-quality, more personalized story of my pursuit of the homesteading life. That story isn’t one of merely surviving or awaiting the future with fear. Instead, it is a joyful pursuit of learning to live on less, learning to produce excellent quality food at home, learning to make the best possible products that nourish your body and soul, and learning to enjoy life with less.

I can’t emphasize it enough. it’s not more stuff that will make your happy. Nor is it more money. It’s learning to make the most of what you have, whether it’s an acre or two in the country, or a small apartment with a sunny window or two in the city.

With that in mind, I realized that my old domain name, Organic Gardening and Homesteading, really didn’t express what this website is about or my passion. That’s why starting August 27, 2016, the new domain name of this website will be Joyful Homesteading. The web address will be joyfulhomesteading.com.

Thanks so much for subscribing to my ezine. I do hope you will join me in this passion for pursuing homesteading, and I look forward to sharing with you more often in the future.

Here’s to homesteading joyfully!
